YAY! Our Bokke are through to the World Cup Rugby semi-finals. Next Sunday they will face Wales. It is my BIRTHDAY, so I know they will win!It is just so wonderful to feel proud of our beautiful country amidst the Eskom loadshedding, economic pressure surrounding Brexit and the horrible things happening in Syria.
Sport and Music are above all that. They bring us together over a good braai or dinner, a few hours in which we don’t have to worry about our surroundings.
Just sit, eat, listen, watch and Enjoy!
Yaaa Man, that’s what we all need, Ne?
We’re sending you some “Be Social, BRAAI Specials” to help you feed all those hungry, happy people.
GO BOKKE! Lindy and the Red Barn Team

To have a positive attitude the experts tell you to Dream it, Visualise it, Commit to it and you’ll be able to Realise it.
Positivity can change your life. Even if your choices of action are limited, your choices regarding your attitude are not.
So, I try to be positive all the time, so positive, in fact, that recently I said to a wonderful couple who buy our fertilized eggs to hatch, “I am positive that they are all fertile”
Well, it turns out that the eggs were not all fertile! I was intrigued as to why only the brown eggs from the red hens were all fertile, but the whiter eggs from the Boschvelders were not.
Remember, we rescued the Red Hens recently? They are the friendliest chickens ever and so easy to catch, unlike their speckled Boschveld sisters who are totally WILD.
Guess what I saw when I sat in the field observing the roosters do their thing? They also learned that the Red Ladies were easy to catch, so why spend energy chasing the speckled runners!
Haha – I was definitely counting my chickens before they hatched.
Enjoy the Specials this week.
Stay Positive, Lindy and the Team at Red Barn

Today we have put some wonderful chicken products on special. Essentially, Red Barn tries to produce the very best chicken you can buy. Here are some reasons WHY chicken meat is really good for you!
1. Rich in Protein – It’s a great source of lean, low-fat protein which contributes to muscle growth and development. That protein also helps support a healthy body weight and aids weight loss.
2. Good for the Heart – Eating chicken breast suppresses and controls a body’s homocysteine amino acid levels which, if too high, can lead to cardiovascular disease.
3. Plenty of Phosphorus – They’re rich in phosphorus, an essential mineral that supports your teeth and bones, as well as kidney, liver, and central nervous system function.
4. Abundant in Selenium – Provides this essential mineral involved in metabolic performance … in other words thyroid, hormone, metabolism, and immune function.
5. Boosts Metabolism – Vitamin B6 (or B-complex vitamins) in chicken will keep blood vessels healthy, energy levels high, and metabolism burning away calories so you can manage a healthy weight..
6. Rich in Niacin – Another B-vitamin, niacin helps guard against cancer and other forms of genetic (DNA) damage.
7. Natural Anti-depressant – If you’re feeling depressed, eating some poultry will increase the serotonin amino acid levels in your brain, enhancing your mood, blasting stress, and lulling you to sleep.
8. Promotes Eye Health – An excellent source of retinol, alpha and beta-carotene, and lycopene (all derived from vitamin A) and all vital for healthy eyesight.
9. Essential for Healthy Tissue – Riboflavin (or Vitamin B2), found in chicken livers, will drastically reduce your skin problems and repair dry or damaged skin.
10. Prevents Bone Loss – If you’re entering your senior years and you’re concerned about Osteoporosis or arthritis, eating chicken will aid in your fight against bone loss thanks to the protein punch it packs!
Cheers for now, EAT MORE CHICKEN Lindy and the Red Barn Team

We have some new products for you! Bonnie-Bio’s Compostable bags and clingwrap and Earthshine’s delicious, incredibly healthy snacks.
I never knew the difference between BIODEGRADABLE and COMPOSTABLE!
Compostable means that a product is capable of disintegrating into natural elements in a compost environment, leaving no toxicity in the soil. This typically must occur in about 90 days.
Some companies advertise their products as merely biodegradable. This is not necessarily a good thing since nearly everything will biodegrade in between 1,000 and 10,000 years!
Earthshine, make the tastiest, healthiest Florentine biscuits, cookies and Granola. The list of ingredients is really impressive.
Don’t forget our Boerseep, which takes stains out of laundry like nothing I have ever seen before and of course our Triple Orange earth-friendly cleaning range that I swear by!
Bee’s wax wraps are so handy, I wrap cheese, sandwiches, bread, leftovers and more in them – so much better than one-use clingwrap!

I am back from the incredible Gala Event, in Cape Town, celebrating Women in Farming. I didn’t win, but I am still a winner just having been in the finals!! A wonderful woman wine-maker, with a heart-warming “rags to riches” story, won and she really deserved it.
One of the many things I took home from this event was a message from one of the guest speakers.
FLY – First Love Yourself
Women tend to be the most critical of themselves.
While I was in this room full of incredible women farmers, I realized, no one is judging me, they are actually ALL supporting me to their fullest.
It made me feel so proud to be a woman.
Enjoy the long weekend!

Our pig farmer, Martinus, brought us some lovely pork last week, so we decided to give you some specials on our pork, as we have a fridge full!
We are so blessed to be associated with, honest, caring farmers who only supply Red Barn. So far we have had nothing but wonderful service from them all.
The new shop is slowly taking shape. Filip is doing all the electrical and plumbing at the moment and then we will put up the sides and close it in. I am so impatient, but I am trying to build the whole thing without borrowing money. Not easy and rather slow.
Fortunately, our customer base is growing daily. I cannot believe how many people are moving to the Garden Route, mainly from JHB.

Glorius summer days! Chilly but beautiful. The farm looks so stunning, it is a joy to wake up and look outside.
This week we are featuring our different MINCED MEATS. We have Chicken mince, Beef Mince and Pork mince all on special.
Mince is always my “go to” when I can’t think of what to cook. Sometimes I mix two different types of meat together.
Like Chicken and Pork mince.
It makes for something totally different. Try this:
Chicken and Pork Katleti (Russian meat patties)
We have also put some of
FIG TREE FARM’S
delicious, homemade goodies on special. I love promoting their goods because they are really special people making wonderful things with great love and care!

Everyone has their favourite cut of chicken! In the very beginning, I clearly remember us learning how to do the 5 basic cuts as quickly as possible, with a knife! Yes, we were slow, but we persevered until we upgraded to a sharp spinning blade!
One of my very best chicken cuts is Spatchcocked. What a strange word. Where did it come from?
This wacky term comes from Ireland and may be an abbreviation of
“Dispatch the cock”
a phrase which the Irish apparently threw around in the 18th century when they needed to whip up a quick and simple chicken dinner. Basically, spatchcocking means the same thing as butterflying, but it’s just more fun to say.
I love “FLATTIES” because they are so easy to cook! In the oven or on a braai or Weber, they cook quickly and evenly.
Enjoy one of our Butterflied Flatties, plain or spiced at a special price this week!
Cheers for now,
Lindy and the Red Barn Team

So, yes, I am a “tree hugger” but only when I can’t hug an animal, without trees there are no animals so, it’s logical for me to hug trees, right?🤣
This week we are celebrating World Environment Day, with the BLUE of the earth, the GREENING we need to do and our TRIPLE ORANGE products that are not only enviromentally friendly, they will clean your home with the power of sweet smelling oranges! They work, I use nothing else!
World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on the 5th of June every year, and is the United Nation’s principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment.
So each and every one of us can do these 3 simple things and make a difference:
Plant a tree (you can send us one, we will plant it for you if you don’t have space or time) We will send you a picture of your tree every year on it’s, plant-day.
and of COURSE, get rid of one use plastic! NOTE all our bags are compostable and biodegradable. (we are trying!)
I have put our Triple Orange, earth friendly, unbelievably effective, cleaning products on special for you to try, and for those of you that just LOVE Triple Orange already, we brought in some cost saving 5 litre buckets of PURE ORANGE CLEANING POWER just for you.
Our earth is fragile and spectacular, help Red Barn to protect it. Send a tree with Gibson, bring us a tree to the farm, or even send us tree money, we will buy a tree for you! I dare you!🤣
